Indigenous-led and co-designed adaptation planning

November 5th, 2020

CSIRO is empowering Indigenous people to chart their adaptation pathways based on Indigenous perceptions of risk, vulnerability and opportunity.

This involves:

  • Using multiple knowledge systems (e.g. scientific and Indigenous) and recognising multiple governance arrangements (e.g. nation-state, customary)
  • Applying participatory research methods using a diverse range of tools and approaches, such as aligning research activities with Indigenous priorities, establishing Indigenous-governance of research, and field-based mapping
  • Being theoretically-informed to account for the ongoing impact of colonisation
  • Applications to Wet Tropics Natural Resource Management Cluster and World Heritage sites, such as Great Barrier Reef, Shark Bay, K’gari (Fraser Island).
