Indigenous-led and co-designed adaptation planning
CSIRO is empowering Indigenous people to chart their adaptation pathways based on Indigenous perceptions of risk, vulnerability and opportunity.
This involves:
- Using multiple knowledge systems (e.g. scientific and Indigenous) and recognising multiple governance arrangements (e.g. nation-state, customary)
- Applying participatory research methods using a diverse range of tools and approaches, such as aligning research activities with Indigenous priorities, establishing Indigenous-governance of research, and field-based mapping
- Being theoretically-informed to account for the ongoing impact of colonisation
- Applications to Wet Tropics Natural Resource Management Cluster and World Heritage sites, such as Great Barrier Reef, Shark Bay, K’gari (Fraser Island).
