Search by Location

Overview

Search by location allows you to search for collections using a map. Only collections with location information recorded in the metadata (i.e. latitude, longitude and coordinate system) will be displayed in the search results.

Search by Location

Click on the Location button:

To move or pan the map from its default view, click and hold, then drag. You can also use the +/- controls at the top left to zoom in and out.

Select Area or Point from the Selection Type drop down:

Map controls Description
Area Select this button to draw an area on the map using a bounding box.

On a mobile device touch the screen where you want to start drawing an area. Keep your finger pressed against the screen and move your finger to where you wish to finish drawing an area. Release your finger when you have finished.

Point Select this button to select a point on the map with a 50km radius.
Reset Map Select this button to reset the pan and zoom levels, and display the default map of Australia. Any area or point previously selected will also be removed.

Zoom (+/-)

This control allows you to zoom in (+) and out (-). You can also:
  • Scroll with a mouse to zoom in and out
  • Pinch to zoom in or spread to zoom out using a mobile device

To search for an area click once on the map to place a corner of your search rectangle. Move the mouse cursor to expand the search box, then click once more to set the search area.

Click the search icon at bottom right of the map to run the search:

Then browse the full list of search results below the map.

Move the mouse cursor over the results markers on the map to see the title and area for individual results.

Refine results using the filters on the left hand side of the page.

After conducting a Search by location, add text to the search box below the map (e.g. water) and click Search to further refine your results:
