Macquarie Fields High School – Energy – Piezoelectric energy

Four students giving a presentation in a classroom

Our group solved the challenge of problems relating to energy. Things like energy consumption, efficiency, quantity, price and being environmentally friendly. We came up with ideas such as using kinetic energy from people stepping on the ground pressing a tile down and the piezoelectric absorbing and channelling it through to a storage facility. I learnt to innovate and create new things to solve solutions and weigh the pros and cons of different options when applying to solve real world problems.

This is limited in most school learning environments as everything is graded and the requirements are outlined. While this showed us that requirements for problems are not outlined, you need to think hard to create the best possible solution for your problem. When you do not have the opportunity to be creative with your solutions the ideas stagnate and real-world problems cannot be solved.
