AEsOP (2017-2023)

January 1st, 2017

The Australian-waters Earth Observation Phytoplankton-type products (AEsOP) website project aimed to establish an in situ database specifically for the calibration and validation of regional algorithms. The database was populated with datasets from 67 field campaigns in Australian and international waters, and included multiple coincident parameters such as HPLC pigments (including size fractionated pigments where available), pigment concentration and composition, absorption coefficients for phytoplankton (aph), non-algal or detrital material (ad), and CDOM (ag), total suspended mater (TSM), Secchi depth and processed data from radiometers, hydroscat, ac-9, ac-s and other instruments from 1997 onwards.

AEsOP Datasets

The datasets that were available for query via the AEsOP website is now part of the Bio Optical Database of Australian Waters which is hosted by our colleagues at the Australian Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS).

AEsOP History

The AEsOP website was developed by the Information and Data Centre, who handle most of the data associated with the Marine National Facility.  Responsibility for the website was transferred to the Coastal Informatics team in 2017, and we maintained it until the site was decommissioned in July 2023.
