May 18th, 2021

Over the past two years, the Aus4Innovation Program has strengthened connections between Australia and Vietnam and delivered real impact.

This flagship program under the Australia-Vietnam Innovation Partnership sets both countries up for future collaboration as we face new challenges and opportunities together.

CSIRO and Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology are building connections between Australian and Vietnamese universities, research agencies, and innovative businesses.

Working together, the Aus4Innovation program is:

  • building new partnerships, and strengthening existing ones
  • seeking to innovate with purpose by supporting sustainable development projects
  • establishing relationships that will allow Vietnam and Australia to capture the possibilities of the future together.

Impact spotlight: A ‘how-to’ guide to provide practical commercialisation guidance to Vietnamese researchers

A newly released guide – Commercialisation PLUS – will better equip researchers with the skills, confidence and networks they need to commercialise their research and bring it to market in Vietnam.

The guide is the first of its kind in Vietnam and is the result a close collaboration between (CSIRO), Vietnamese intellectual property and technology transfer experts, researchers in public research institutes, and the National Agency for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialisation Development (NATEC).

NATEC will deliver the dissemination of the guide to other institutions across the country.

Collaboration to 2025

The connections and impacts achieved over the past two years are the beginning of a long relationship.

Speaking at the annual bilateral meeting with Vietnam’s Minister for Science and Technology last week (Thursday 13 May), H.E. Ms Robyn Mudie, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, said she was delighted that the Innovation Partnership between Australia and Vietnam, through the Aus4Innovation program, has delivered tangible, significant results, that are having substantial positive impacts on the lives of Vietnamese people.

“Our collaborative achievements with MOST and partners from both countries are being realised thanks to an embrace of emerging technology and scientific knowledge. Our decision to increase support for Innovation by AUD 3.5 million reaffirms Australia’s commitment to our strategic partnership with Vietnam, in which innovation is one of the three priorities.”

This increase in investment will bring the total investment in Aus4Innovation to $13.45 million.

This new investment will enable new initiatives that are designed to adapt the program to the context of COVID-19 and to position the program for a Phase 2 that will continue the relationship to 2025.
