Developing a model for a sustainable innovation centre

Mr Tran Vu Tuan Phan, Acting Director of the Innovation and Technology Service Centre, VISTI (left) and Mr Rongyu Li, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement), The University of Queensland formalise the agreement to deliver an innovation centre to help Vietnam’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) tap into their innovation and entrepreneurial potential.

Vietnam’s Institute for Science, Technology and Innovation (VISTI) will join forces with Ventures, the entrepreneurship division of Australia’s The University of Queensland (UQ), to develop an innovation centre that will help Vietnam’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) tap into their innovation and entrepreneurial potential.

The innovation centre will be established within the Ministry of Science and Technology in Hanoi using models of best-practice and policies from Australia.

The innovation centre will be developed as a valuable resource for SMEs to access information, networks, technology brokering and technology transfer support and more.

It is expected that this project will demonstrate a possible model for innovation centres that are self-sustaining.

The project will cover all aspects that need to be considered in the establishment of sustainable innovation centres. The project team will develop best-practice guidelines and policies that consider intellectual property, database and network access, and a range of other support services to help entrepreneurs and innovation companies establish in Vietnam.

The project will also provide a range of policy recommendations that will be useful in supporting the Vietnamese innovation ecosystem by enabling the creation of similar centres across the country.

The Aus4Innovaiton program is investing in this project as part of its ongoing innovation policy exchange initiative to support collaboration initiatives that address emerging challenges in the implementation of Vietnam’s innovation agenda.
