Advancing Space in the Asia-Pacific

Dr Alex Held receives the APRSAF Special Award for Long-term Contributions

CSIRO played a key role at the 30th Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF), where the focus was on leveraging space technologies to tackle regional challenges.

AquaWatch Australia Lead Dr Alex Held co-chaired the Satellite Applications for Societal Benefit Working Group (SAWG), which featured two days of presentations showcasing progress under the SAFE (Space Applications for Environment) initiatives.

Janet Anstee presented AquaWatch’s integration of citizen science through the EyeOnWater app during the Space Education for All Working Group. Her talk, featured in the “Primary & Secondary” session, was well-received and highlighted the importance of community engagement in environmental monitoring.

CSIRO also participated in bilateral meetings alongside the Australian Space Agency, joined the Pacific Round Table discussions and hosted a workshop on the AquaWatch Australia Regional Alliance (AQWRA), furthering collaboration across the Asia-Pacific.

A standout moment was Alex Held receiving the APRSAF Special Award for Long-term Contributions, recognising his significant efforts in advancing space applications for societal benefit.

CSIRO looks forward to building on the connections and outcomes from this year’s forum to address shared challenges through space science and technology.
