New position in our team: Looking for leaders in spatial platform development
Re-advertised position for Senior Research Scientist in Digital Spatial Platform Development for Integrated Pest Management #94407, based in Canberra or Brisbane.
Improving the sustainability of agricultural production systems and especially changes to the approaches used to manage agripests (weed, pest, and disease) is an important challenge facing communities. However, the integration of agroecological data, knowledge, and predictions into digital tools has been underdeveloped to date. The Senior Research Scientist (SRS) in this position will play a leadership role in facilitating the transition to digitally enabled agripest management.
The SRS appointed to this role will spend some of their time developing relationships and leading foundational scientific approaches relevant to sustainable agripest management, and lead components of two newly commenced 5-year multi-agency projects on landscape approaches to invertebrate pest and disease control. These projects require the development of a foundational digital spatial platform for agripest control combining a diversity of biophysical data streams and models. The application of this platform is in two contexts: firstly, to create a spatial decision-making framework for the management of beneficial insects in canola landscapes across southern Australia (Canola Allies project). Secondly, to provide regional plant protection information integrated with social network information to enable area-wide management for a broad range of current and exotic pests in horticultural landscapes in a case study region.
Further details and how to apply can be found on the CSIRO jobs site here. The advertisement is open until the 1st of April 2024. Contact Sarina.Macfadyen@csiro.au if you require further details.
