How to reduce agrifood systems’ future hidden costs?
The Food, Agriculture, Biodiversity, Land-Use and Energy Consortium (FABLE) brings together scientific institutions and experts to explore pathways for agriculture, food and land-use systems at national and global scales in their alignment with sustainability and development goals.
In 2024, FABLE provided the background study for the FAO’s annual flagship report, State of Food and Agriculture (SOFA).
The SOFA 2024 report, ‘How to reduce future agrifood systems future hidden costs? A multi-country case study’, focused on value-driven transformation of agrifood systems.
With support from Ag2050, CSIRO’s Javi Navarro Garcia and Frank Sperling jointly led a team to contribute the Australia chapter. In the chapter, they review the FAO methodology within the Australian setting and consider the evolution of hidden costs in agri-food systems under different development paths.
